5 THINGS TO CHANGE IN 2020
2020 has been an interesting year so far, that is for sure. From awful deaths, to the coronavirus (not to mention the quarantine/stay-at-home orders), and (finally) attention to racial injustice - this year really has taken us for a ride, so far, and I just cannot believe it is not over yet. While there has been a lot of bad this year, I also believe that bad pushes people out of their comfort zones and it pushes people to change, usually for the better. With that spirit in mind, I wanted to write up a list of a few things that you might want to consider changing going forward. If you have your own list, I would love for you to share it with me, but if not, I hope that this gets your mind working so that we can all move forward in a positive direction and be happier and healthier for it.
Friends And Family
After the entire quarantine process, you probably realized that friends and family are extremely important. In fact, they are not just important, they are everything. It’s funny how not being able to see the people that you love more than likely changed your mindset. Maybe you dreaded getting out of the house to visit people every single weekend. All you wanted was a chance to sit on the couch and do nothing, right? Well, you got that chance, and now I bet that you are viewing things a bit differently. Although exhausting sometimes, spending a ton of quality time with friends and family is so important and even more important for your kids. If you took advantage of your family and friends by not giving them your all and not making time for them in your schedule, I highly urge you to change that up going forward. Remember: family and friends are everything.
Ring, Ring, Ring
Your phone. We all love our smartphones, right? In fact, as a blogger, I have to be on my phone a lot in order to post on social media. But, one thing that I learned over the past few months is that social media is not everything. I have all that I need right in front of me and that is my family. In order to spend quality time with them, you really need to set your phone down - even if it is just for an hour - and give 100% to your family. Kids grow up in a blink of an eye, so quickly. Before you know it, they will be out of the house going off to college. I know that social media can be interesting, but please do not miss this precious time with your kids. Focus on them, love on them, and watch them learn new things each and every day! Put your phone down and focus more on the things that bring you happiness.
Your City
Over the past few months, I have realized that happiness is everything. Honestly, there is nothing more important than happiness (and family, of course, like I’ve mentioned above). But what are some things that you can switch around, in order to make sure that you are bringing happiness and not negativity into your life? Your friend group, the way you view situations, the way you react to situations, and then other little things like your home decor, and even your city. Right now, we are working on changing up our city. Although we currently live in NJ, I am originally from MD and the plan has been to get back to that area - hopefully by/in 2021. I know that it will bring us so much happiness! One thing that I don’t love so much about moving is the actual moving process. All of the heavy furniture, the lifting, and the sweat and hard work that comes with it. So, this time, I think we are going to look into hiring movers to do the job for us. I have searched high and low and so far, I’m really liking a company that I found called Falcon Moving & Storage. Falcon Moving & Storage has the goal of helping you have a smooth and stress-free moving experience. You will be treated with respect and like family. In fact, they always remember their customers by their name!! They are a small and local NJ-based moving company and they have a fleet of 3 box trucks, as well as a large cargo van. They admit that they are not perfect (who is?!), but they walk the extra mile to make sure that you have a near perfect experience, in order to win over your trust so that you will WANT to tell all of your friends about them. The owner, Dmitry Polyudov, is committed to providing a top notch service to help you reduce your stress during your move. If you check out their reviews, you will see how they go above and beyond for their customers! If you are looking for a mover quote in Woodbridge NJ, give them a call. Organizing a move takes skill and practice and Falcon Moving & Storage has that knowledge, in order to help you out during your next move.
Physical And Mental Health
We have seen disease and death and mental illness and if there is anything at all to change this year, it is your physical and mental health. They are both equally important and they deserve to be focused on. When it comes to your physical health, there is not a better time to begin working out - even if it is just a walk around the block. I recently had a baby, so this is even more so important for me, in order to feel more and more like myself again. But, even more importantly, working on your physical health helps keep your immune system strong and healthy. When it comes to your mental health, a lot of people have been struggling lately. I was going to talk about how postpartum anxiety and depression are common, but honestly, all depression is extremely common now, no matter if you are a parent or not. I could go on and on about how important it is to work on your mental health, but I think this calls for another blog post dedicated to it. Please, if you need help when it comes to your mental health, do not be afraid to reach out.
How You Treat Others
Last but not least, the way you treat others matters. The way you bring up your kids does matter. Like I said on my Instagram, it is time we call attention to the racial injustice that is happening before us. As a mother to a (half) black american baby, I cannot stay silent and my heart is just aching. Please, raise your children up right, show them that equality matters, and teach them BY EXAMPLE. How you treat others does matter and we need to do better. During this pandemic, please stay safe. Practice social distancing. Stand six feet apart. Wear a mask. And remember, BLACK LIVES MATTER.
